Visited in October 2009. On the far reaches of Church Road, nearly opposite Hove Tandoori.
A Sri Lankan place - possibly the only one in the town (ITS NOT A CITY) of Brighton and Hove.
We had a predinner beer (not bad Harvey's) in The Seafield - a small unreconstructed pub along the road. We bought some dodgy DVDs (that kind of place).
Clean modern restaurant with table mats and napkins from a great shop in Colombo called Barefoot.
The starters were a bit bland and disappointing - pepper filled with shrimp, Squid filled with veg and tough dumplings.
Mains were much better - tuna curry - hot, coconutty; devilled shrimp - sweet and sour; cabbage mumbal, rice hoppers and roti. Washed down with big bottles of Lion lager. Pudding was a tough but tasty Sri Lankan pancake with a coconut and aniseed filling and wattalapan - a harder version of creme caramel.
Service was friendly and efficient.
£26/head.

Chilli Pickle, Meeting House Lane, Brighton
We came here in July 2009, after not getting in at Jamie's Italian - a ridiculous wait for a Wednesday evening - and other local restaurants being rejected for obscure reasons.
We had to fight our way past a photographer tkaing pictures of the outside for an newspaper article or something.
Its a modern poncey Indian, with no sub-continental front of house staff but lots in the kitchen.
Portions were smaller than in traditional Indian restourants but the quality of the food was good. I had a whole baked fish, and other GOGs had oxtail and lamb. I think we drank large bottles of Indian Pale Ale which was very toothsome.

Welcome, I suppose
Hello. Welcome to the 3 Grumpy Old Gits blog. We can't be bothered to write out 3 Grumpy Old Gits each time so we've shortened it to 3GOG.
We are 3 blokes around 50 years old in Brighton, England. We hatched this idea on one of our monthly meals out in Brighton and Hove. We were a bit worse for wear and getting a few things off our chest and thought that other grumpy old gits might like to join in.
One of the main things we will write about are the restaurants we eat in each month. We take it in turns to choose a venue. Brighton and Hove has 11 restaurants in the Good Food Guide but so far we've not visited any of them.
We will probably also blog about other things that we love or get grumpy about - beer and wine, football, technology etc.
Please join in.
